Kajima’s first PFI project was to build 14,000 sqm of serviced accommodation for the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA). Kajima developed a unique project financial structure that was a true hybrid between project finance and traditional property finance.
This redevelopment project brought well-located but underutilised land back into active use creating a thriving new space consisting of both residential and commercial buildings.
The scheme transformed an 11 hectare site occupied by single storey accommodation dating back to the 1940s into a modern mixed-use scheme comprising smart, professional and flexible offices for DEFRA.
The open-plan office space embodies the principles of natural ventilation, a major factor that contributed to the building achieving BREEAM Excellent status. The light and airy design creates smart, professional offices that are flexible and can be tailored to suit a variety of occupiers and their various demands.
