This development was carried out in partnership with Stanhope Plc, applying the lessons learned from earlier Stanhope projects to enable fast delivery of shell and core. This allowed fit-out to begin early, in this case two months before practical completion of the developers' works. We worked closely with the owner-occupier, Cable&Wireless, which purchased the building to provide new headquarters for its subsidiary, Mercury Communications, at an early stage of construction.
The seven-storey building provides high quality office space in an historic London square with both residential and commercial uses. The design had to address complex planning constraints. Close links were formed with the local residents’ association and the square was renovated to a jointly agreed brief.
Cable&Wireless continues to occupy the building, although the majority of the space has been sub-let to The Economist and TSL Education Ltd.
