This PFI project for Norfolk County Council comprises the construction of six new-build schools. The total construction value is £43m and the total project value (NPV) is £79m.

The schools were built by Kier Regional Limited over a phased delivery programme set against the backdrop of the countywide reorganisation form a three-tier to a two-tier (primary/secondary) estate.

Phase 1 was completed in 2007 and consisted of a 1,200 place secondary school (Taverham High School) a two-form entry primary school and nursery (Lakenham) and a two-form entry nursery/play-group with language support unit (Heartsease/Woodside)

Phase 2 was completed in 2008 and comprised a two-form entry primary with nursery and Special Educational Needs provision (Norman/Dawson/Mile Cross), a one-form entry primary with Special Educational Needs provision (Bluebell), and a three-form entry junior school (Thorpe Hamlet)

The schools were intelligently designed and facilitate community use, providing a focal point to their new communities – a key element in the amalgamation and reorganisation of Norfolk’s school estate planning. The facilities are energy-efficient and utilises photo-voltaic cells to generate 10% of the energy requirements through renewable sources. Facilities Management of the project will be for a period of 25 years.
