KAJIMA PARTNERSHIPS RECEIVES TOP BCI AWARD FOR THE ROYAL ALEXANDRA CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Kajima Partnerships is delighted to announce that its project The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton, has received the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.

The award is given for improving the delivery of public services, bestowing a sense of identity and community, being a source of local pride and helping to build a sustainable future.

The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital is a private finance project (PFI) developed, constructed and managed by Kajima that, for the first time, puts the town's children's healthcare facilities into a single location to transform the clinical services offered to patients in Sussex and beyond. It sets a benchmark for public hospital design and delivery and as such has established itself as a best-in-class example of PFI public infrastructure projects.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: "This award showcases what can be achieved when high-quality design is coupled with highly effective delivery. I hope that the Alex will prove to be an inspiration to other planners, developers and architects."

The building structure has been designed to fit onto a very restricted hill top site which maximises the available space by using an innovative over-hanging design which delivers exceptional patient-friendly spaces and teaching rooms.
