TENNIS AT WALBOTTLE RECEIVES BEACON STATUS

The LTA president, Peter Bretherton, was very impressed by the new community tennis club at Walbottle Campus, developed by Kajima, when he visited to award the programme Beacon Status.

Peter was thrilled with his visit and said 'Today’s visit was fantastic and I will never forget the young people who were playing tennis on the school courts in their break time. I wish them every success in the future'.

From conception to delivery, the programme has been the brain child of Karen Johns, Kajima Community Manager, and Brandon Gilhooley, LTA tennis coach. An innovative programme of coaching and 'Cardio Tennis' has been put together to encourage people of all ages to take part in the game. Beacon status highlights excellence and innovation which will be used by the LTA as an example of good practice for others to learn from.

Kajima Community Senior Manager commented, 'Setting up any club is extremely hard and time consuming work that involves expertise in sourcing funding, marketing, recruitment and knowledge of how governing bodies work. This is an great example of the types of activities that Kajima develop can make a real difference to the local community'.
