KAJIMA REOPENS CENTRE FOR THE COMMUNITY

Kajima Community have recently been appointed by Newcastle City Council to undertake the operational management of West Denton Community Centre based just outside the city centre. The agreement is on an interim basis until 31 March 2013 which will allow the popular centre to remain open after the threat of closure.

Kajima Community have been working hard to reinstate the centre as the hub of the local community and as such a wide variety of groups such as art clubs, dance and fitness classes and slimming groups all operate from the centre. Along with the winter indoor bowls season and a selection of new initiatives the centre is fast becoming a thriving and exciting facility for the local community to enjoy.

Slimming World organiser, Sharon Sellers, who runs classes at the centre every Thursday said: ‘We are delighted that the West Denton Community Centre is back open for business. We have over 40 slimmers who attend our sessions on a weekly basis so we are really pleased we are still able to offer this service to the nearby community.’

Julie Moorhouse, Community Use Manager for Kajima commented: ‘We are really excited to build on an already active community use programme which we operate at nearby Walbottle Campus, by adding West Denton Community Centre to our local offering. Since reopening the centre it is evident just how important this facility is to the residents in the local area and we have been really inspired to help grow the number of activities on offer and increase community participation at the centre.’
