INTERSERVE KAJIMA APPOINTED AS PREFERRED BIDDER TO DESIGN, BUILD, FINANCE AND MAINTAIN THE NEW SNBTS NATIONAL CENTRE, EDINBURGH

Interserve Kajima, a 50/50 joint venture between Interserve Investments and Kajima Partnerships, announces today that it has been appointed preferred bidder by Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service for the £33 million new National Centre NPD project.

The project comprises facilities for the processing and testing of blood, tissues and cells, quality and regulatory functions, research and development, offices and garaging on the Heriot-Watt Research Park, close to Edinburgh. The development is being funded using the Scottish Government’s Non-Profit Distributing (NPD) Model.

Interserve Kajima will design, build, finance and maintain the new National Facility with financial close expected in Q3 2014.

Our experienced design team is led by the multi-award winning Reiach and Hall Architects who designed the New Stobhill Hospital and Dundee House for Dundee City Council. Buro Happold will provide all the engineering services on the project and eXmoor Pharma Concepts will provide Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) advice.

Richard Coe, Project Director for Interserve Kajima commented: “We are delighted to be awarded this NPD project where our design will facilitate a wide range of SNBTS activities for years to come.”

Brian Furlong, Interserve Investments commented: “Dialogue has been a priority for us and we are very appreciative of the dedication and interaction that has been afforded to us by SNBTS, stakeholders and end users which has enabled us to develop our proposals in significant detail.”

Construction work will start on site at Heriot-Watt Research Park during Q3 2014 and it is anticipated that the National Centre will be completed during Q1 2017.
